"We have been so blessed with a miracle of God. We have a confirmed pregnancy against all odds. I have blocked tubes and tired ovaries. I was told by the doctors that I had nil chance of conceiving naturally and earlier this year I was told my best chance of getting pregnant with IVF was to find an egg donor. We contacted Rebecca after hearing that TCM and acupunture may assist in overcoming the tired ovaries. "I was diagnosed with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) at 21. I got married in 2004 and had been off the pill since 2003 (suffered terrible headaches/side effects). So when my husband and I started talking about starting a family I knew there was going to be an issue as I only seemed to get my period every 6 months or so.
I went to my Gynecologist in September 2005 and we started on Clomid few months later progressing to IUI – where I think my doctor thought I was going to produce 10,000 children with the amount of eggs that shot off the radar. He thought the next sensible approach would be IVF.
My first cycle of IVF – I had no issues with Syranol, I took 125mg Puregon the whole way through – when it came to the final scan before the procedure my Doctor was unable to give me an exact figure on the amount of follicles we would get because they were differing drastically in size and shape.
We got 20 Eggs, 13 Fertilised – 2 Embryos – Negative Result – Froze 6 Embryos
Frozen Cycle – 2 Embryos – Negative Result
Another Frozen Cycle – 2 Embryos – Negative Result
Attempted Frozen Cycle – Cancelled due to Embryos not thawing properly
On consultation with my doctors – I asked him whether it would be okay if I tried acupuncture with the next Fresh IVF Cycle and he had no problems with this. I decided to try acupuncture as one of my friends pointed out an article to me about the success rates and this stage I was willing to try anything.
A friend mentioned that Newstead Holistic Medicine practiced acupuncture and I read there website regarding Women’s Health & Fertility and sent an e-mail which was answered by Rebecca – to ask whether she could treat IVF Patients with PCOS using acupuncture.
Rebecca talked to me about the Acupuncture and combining it with Chinese Herbs and how this may assist with the PCOS by producing quality Eggs. I thought I would give it a go.
I saw Rebecca just after the Attempted Frozen Cycle and I thought I may get my period and my doctor would make me go a month before letting me start an IVF cycle again so I started taking some Chinese Herbs and then the next day I had my period and within 5 days of seeing my doctor I was starting the down regulating cycle with the nasal spray again. My husband and I were away and when I got back I saw my Doctor first who gave me an internal scan and he said – what is this - you have a egg here (when obviously there is not meant to be any) any way he took a measurement but it was small. He did the routine blood test and my levels were low enough that I could go to the next stage of the IVF Cycle.
When I saw Rebecca, apparently I should have told her that my doctor had changed the cycle and the herbs I was taking were assisting eggs in growing. So we worked out what day my doctor was working with and changed my herbs accordingly.
After using Puregon (125mg) – he was able to do a scan and he could see six or seven follicles all the same size. Another thing was that he commented (first time) about my endometrium and what excellent condition it was.
Second IVF Cycle – 6 Eggs Collected – 6 Eggs Fertilised – 2 Embroyos put back – Expecting Fraternal Twins – May 2007 and froze 2 of 4 Embryos
I know once I have had the babies, I will be going back to Rebecca to see if she can help get my period back to normal and hope she can assist with the other PCOS side effects. I have no hesitation in recommending Rebecca and Newstead Holistic Health for treatment with PCOS & IVF."

Dear Rebecca,
I can’t thank you enough. You have made such a significant change in my life. I am telling anyone who will listen about your Chinese Herbs and Acupuncture treatment and how wonderful it is.
I had suffered with Menorrhagia (extremely heavy and sometimes painful periods) for the last 20 years, with the last 12 months becoming increasingly worse and stopping me from leaving the house for 2 days each month, practically living in the bathroom. Doctors and Gynecologists gave me three options:
1. A Hysterectomy (which my Gyno didn’t recommend at this stage of my life)
2. Insert a device which would release hormones into my system (which I didn’t want) or
3. Put up with it!
I remembered about seeing Sonya Barnes a couple of years before and she helped me find out about my allergies and to deal with them. I had been seeing another Acupuncturist who got me thinking about the Chinese Herbs. I remembered that Sonya had mentioned the Chinese Herbalist at Newstead Holistic Medicine and I decided to give it a go.
Four months ago I met Rebecca Maitland and today Menorrhagia is no longer part of my life. After taking the first lot of herbs from Rebecca, my first period was significantly lighter, only requiring me to stay housebound for half a day and a bit heavy at night. I was so shocked that I think I was waiting for the Menorrhagia to return. It didn’t and I don’t have to worry about staying home at all and I’ve had no pain. Today I feel so much healthier and happier. If only I had known about this 20 years ago!
I am still continuing to take the Chinese Herbs and see Rebecca once a month to make absolutely certain that it is not coming back and I really like the taste of the tea that I make with the herbs.
This treatment honestly works. I would recommend it to all women suffering from Menorrhagia.

ENDOMETRIOSIS
Why did you come to Newstead Holistic Medicine?
I came to see Rebecca for Chinese herbal medicine because I had endometriosis. My periods were EXTREMELY heavy and I also experienced painful menstruation and my period would last 9-14 days.
What was your experience/results?
Fantastic... Better than expected. Newstead Holistic Medicine was my last attempt at getting things right. I'm so glad i gave myself one last opportunity. It has been 7 months now and my periods are NORMAL.
Had you seen another health prfessional for this condition?
I had seen numerous doctors, naturopaths, homeopaths, and intuitionalists. I even had an operation and it made no difference what so ever, and years of medication with no relief at all.
If so, what therapy and what was your experience?
I tried Depro prevera, The pill (I think I tried every one available), Hormone cream, Diet, IUD, Surgery. Nothing worked, I gave up.
What do you like most about our clinic/ service?
All the staff are very open and honest and friendly. The service is professional at a high standard as well as being intimate. You are truly listened to. No one is categorised, you are treated as a unique case on your symptoms not on a general scale. I have found this to be both refreshing and integral to getting to the source of the problem. From my first visit I noticed a significant improvement in my condition and it has continued to improve consistantly with every visit.

HEAVY AND PAINFUL MENSTRUATION
The first condition I had in which I thought would never be solved was heavy periods and infertility. My periods were so heavy it would seem to the normal person I would hemrage rather than have a period. I would try not to leave the house because I was unable to control the bleeding with sanitary products. I had every symptom of Endometriosis, and after seeing 3 different specialists; a laparoscopy nothing ever seemed to show and everything was normal, except month after month I had these extreme periods. After seeing Rebecca, taking herbs and having acupuncture, the results have been incredible. I have now had 3 periods each time getting more and more manageable. I can now go to work with a period, and on the first three days of my period I feel confident that nothing will happen!! I also do not use any pain killers for menstrual pain anymore.

ENDOMETRIOSIS
My endometriosis symptoms were years of pain with intercourse and crippling period pain which caused me to have time off work whilst going through a period. I had already had two operations which helped temporarily, but it always came back. My doctor’s final offer was to either get pregnant, or go on drugs that would put me into a temporary menopause! A bit extreme I thought, either have a baby or take the chance I may never have one. I decided to live with the pain.
I decided to see Rebecca about my endometriosis after going to the clinic for a massage. I didn’t think it would hurt to try, although I did not hold much hope as I thought I had lost the battle with my condition.
I was so wrong! As soon as Rebecca started me on the herbs I felt movement within my pelvis and she advised me that it was a good sign that the herbs were taking effect. After taking the herbs for 2 mths, I decided to bring on a period and give it a trial run. The first time it had improved by about 60 %, but I still required pain killers. I have since had 3 periods and each one gets better. My last one only required one pain killer (I used to live on them, and still be in pain), and I was able to work straight through my period. I believe my pain is only down to 5%, probably that of a woman without the condition.
I can’t believe the turnaround. I feel like it is a miracle.
Even though I have now moved away, Rebecca continues to provide me with consultations over the phone and is very caring and always available.
As for the pain with intercourse, well let’s say my husband is also a very happy man!

What was your reason for visiting Newstead Holistic medicine? I have been suffering from Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder. I have been unable to work for 5 months due to horrible migraines, crying episodes, fatigue, insomnia, depression, anxiety, and very erratic periods. I was also referred by my gynaecologist.

Experience / Results: Incredible – I feel almost normal. Rebecca changed my diet, used acupuncture and Chinese herbs. Fatigue is gone, I am sleeping really well, the migraines are almost gone and I haven’t had a crying episode since we started treatment. I am calmer, the PMT type anger and anxiety are a thing of the past. My family love to know the day I go to Rebecca.
Had you seen another health professional for this condition? I have seen doctors and gynaecologists for the past 3 years on and off and monthly in the past 5 months.
If so what therapy was used and what was your experience? Agnus cactus and calcium supplements helped to regulate my cycle to 26 days. Eventually I was placed on HRT, which was awful, everything became worse. The last option I was given besides seeing Rebecca was antidepressant tablets! No way was I doing that!

PRE-LABOUR TREATMENT
I was pregnant with my fourth child and was keen to avoid both a medical induction of labour and some problems I had in previous pregnancies (1st pregnancy resulted in a premature birth; 2nd pregnancy medical induction, epidural and extensive perineal tears; 3rd pregnancy medical induction, high blood pressure, epidural, complicated labour). I met with Rebecca Maitland when 34 weeks pregnant and she immediately put me at ease. With a combination of acupuncture and Chinese herbal tea, my blood pressure remained reasonably stable and I delivered a beautiful, healthy, baby girl on my due date. All without medical induction!!! My labour was only two hours long and uncomplicated. Rebecca also encouraged me to use acupressure techniques during labour to both strengthen and regulate contractions and manage pain. For pain relief, I used only acupressure in combination with warm water. I coped very well and was thrilled that I managed without medication. We are convinced that everything went so smoothly because of the acupuncture treatment I had leading up to the birth. I highly recommend Rebecca for pregnancy and pre-labour care!

LABOUR ACUPRESSURE POINTS
Hi Rebecca,
I just wanted to drop you a quick email to say how well the acupressure points worked for my labour. I was quite nauseous during the contractions so we used the wrist points and then when the contractions got more intense, Steve used the lower back points. They worked amazingly well and we used them right up until I actually gave birth (drug free).
I had a great labour starting at about 9.30am and Zara Ellen Grace was born at 3.35pm.
I have attached a picture too, she was only a minute or so old!
I felt especially good after the last session we had. I felt really together, relaxed and like I was ready for what lay ahead. It was the best I had felt for the last month or so.

HEADACHES
Reason for visiting Newstead Holistic Medicine?
I had exhausted all avenues for horrific head pain and migraines with neck and shoulder pain. I also experienced persistent chest pain and numbness with tingling on the face. All of this was very debilitating and didn't allow me to work in my own business due to nausea and pain. I had been experiencing these symptoms for 10 months.

I saw Rebecca for 3 acupuncture sessions, the head pain is almost non-existent and the chest pain has started to subside.

Numerous! -Physiotherapist, neurologist, several G.P's and the out patient department at hospitals. I tried lots of medication without any result and it was all very emotionally draining because no one could give me a straight answer or diagnosis. Physiotherapy was relaxing but no great results were achieved.
What do you like most about our clinic/service?
Personal service, the time to get to know the client and the source of the problem and how best to remedy and give relief. There is a feel of genuine interest in you and how best to help you - something that is quite rare to find these days. MIGRAINES
I started suffering from severe migraines every morning and night. I had to skip days of work due to the pain. Two years ago my doctor suggested acupuncture might help ongoing pain in my right shoulder. While studying my Master of organisational psychology I attended Newstead Holistic Medicine feeling really stressed, unfocused and consumed by headaches. I was unsure what acupuncture could possibly offer me for headaches and stress, I hadn't had any exposure to it before, therefore wasn't expecting much after the first treatment. Afterwards I felt a little sleepy so I went home and slept for 3 hours. Around 10pm I felt the most energised I have been in years and I felt focus and mental clarity.
